Sainsbury’s has been committed to becoming the UK’s greenest grocer for the past few years, aiming to reduce carbon emissions and energy usage within its stores. The campaign was publicised to employees through posters, newsletter articles and videos, and was well-received by staff as it encouraged friendly competition between stores. This initiative has so far enabled Sainsbury’s stores to cut the energy they use by 3%. Supporting this, Sainsbury’s has recently launched the ‘Greenest Grocer’ awards, which is an internal awards programme recognising those stores that have made the most impact in reducing energy usage, waste and water within their stores.
Sainsbury’s agency appointed Gaudio to design the awards for the Greenest Grocer initiative. The Greenest Grocer award is a partially-open golden folder mounted on a wooden base, which was inspired by their ‘Greenest Grocer’ manual. The folder is made of machined, anodised aluminium, with the internal pages made of white acrylic. The front of the folder is engraved in the same way as the folder which inspired the design, and it is mounted on a base made of two 20mm wooden tiers.
The Greenest Grocer award is a bespoke award unlike anything we have ever designed and manufactured before, and just goes to show how Gaudio’s team works with its clients to really bring their design briefs to life.
