Recognising Iconic Artists With A Bespoke Award

When it comes to game-changing music there’s little else so synonymous as the BPI.

Heralded as the voice of authority in an exciting and creative industry, the BPI don’t just recognise winning musicians, but celebrate the best of musical accomplishments across the board.

Representatives of independent and major record labels across the UK, the BPI host the iconic BRIT Awards, and support the transformative power of music and the creative arts through the BRIT Trust.

In 2023, in their first major expansion since 2018 and marking 50 years of the BPI, the BRIT Certified scheme is getting a major expansion with the BRIT Billion Awards.

CELEBRATING WITH THE BRIT AWARDS

The BPI is the home of the BRIT Awards, honouring all that’s brilliant in the British Music Industry. Globally recognised as the ultimate showcase of British and International musical talent, the BRIT Awards have long celebrated iconic names in music. From Best New Artist, to the highly-coveted Mastercard Album of the Year, the BPI have presented awards to industry greats including Freddie Mercury, Spice Girls, and Lewis Capaldi.

Alongside the BRIT Awards is the BRIT Certified Scheme, celebrating the commercial success of singles and albums. The BRIT Certified scheme has presented over 18,000 awards in the last half century.

As part of the BPIs ongoing recognition of musical excellence in an ever-changing industry, the launch of the BRIT Billion Award is an upgrade to the BRIT Certified Awards to represent the impact of streaming on artist reach. The new awards will “celebrate and acknowledge outstanding achievement in recorded music by artists who surpass the landmark of One Billion career UK streams”. Some of the first recipients include ABBA, Mariah Carey, Lewis Capaldi, and Ellie Goulding.

CUSTOM AWARDS FOR THE MUSIC INDUSTRY

Gaudio’s in-house design team worked with the BPI to create a unique bespoke award to capture this monumental achievement.

The BRITs logo is one that’s seen some evolution since it’s launch in 1977, but the iconic statuette is one element that’s remained consistent. The basis for each years trophy, there are few such well-established icons that can sustain the creative expression of the ever-changing BRIT Awards trophy. Year-on-year, the design morphs to include new shapes, colours, and forms while retaining that iconic statuette. From brightly coloured figures to this years ‘hats off to you’ design, each award captures the moment with boldness and individuality worthy of the British music industry.

To create a new custom award that incorporated the much-loved statuette, while reflecting the contemporary developments in the industry championed and recognised by the BPI, Gaudio’s in-house design team went through several design iterations in a collaborative process.

The final design is a recreation of the ‘B’ in the BRITs logo, encapsulating a solid aluminium rendition of the figure. This unique custom award is freestanding, crafted from cast acrylic for a super shiny finish. Each piece is printed in-house at Gaudio’s production space. As well as the BRIT Billion logo, the award will display the winning artists name. Personalised print makes each trophy more than just a generic display piece, but a treasured symbol of this huge achievement.

The BPI describe the British music landscape as ‘one of the most exciting and thriving music sectors in the world’, and their commitment to support new and evolving milestones gives artists opportunities to share their work on a global scale.

The BRIT Billion Awards are set to launch in Spring 2023, presented to artists who have reached this incredible milestone.
