Glasgow Film Festival (GFF) is one of the UK’s leading film festivals, so Gaudio was very excited to receive an enquiry to create a bespoke trophy for the Glasgow Film Festival Audience Award winner. The Glasgow Film Festival takes place over eleven days in February and has just celebrated its thirteenth year. The GFF Audience Award, which is generously supported by ScotRail, is the festival’s only prize, with ten emerging film-makers all contending for the highly-coveted award. The GFF Audience Award is voted for, as the name would suggest, by the audience – voting slips are handed out at the start of all Audience Award-nominated screenings so viewers can cast their votes when they leave the cinema.
The GFF Audience Award was won by Alankrita Shrivastava for Lipstick Under My Burka, and was presented by actor, David Tennant. Lipstick Under My Burka tells the story of four Indian women who want more from life than mundane domesticity.
The design brief for the award was to use their festival logo, incorporating the sponsor’s logo, on a metal trophy. This award had a very short lead time, with only one month from initial enquiry to event date. Gaudio’s designers presented GFF with five design options, all very different to each other, made from a mix of aluminium and acrylic. Close liaison with the client resulted in an award which really captured what they wanted to achieve, arriving on-time and on-budget. The finished article was a large, aluminium ‘F’ with the logo shaped in an ‘F’ form above the ScotRail sponsors logo, sitting atop an aluminium base shaped like a film reel. According to Gavin Crosby, GFF’s Design & Digital Marketing Co-ordinator, “Everyone was really happy with the work you guys did and I wouldn’t hesitate to use you again. I’m already thinking about next year!”
