Believe Awards

The Ykids Believe Awards took place for the 7th Year on 28th June. Ykids is a charity set up to provide education and opportunity to young people in Bootle and Merseyside, which is one of the UK’s most deprived areas. Ykids believes that the transformation of this deprived area is through its young people, and that by giving them the best life chances and opportunities will result in future regeneration to the area, raising aspirations for the future and creating a sense of local pride and community.

Ykids provides various projects and support for children and their families, including sessions at school to help with self-esteem, anger management, bullying and hopes and dreams, as well as small group mentoring and projects, community projects, enterprise and training.

The Believe Awards celebrate young people between the ages of 7-17 who have shown inspirational behaviour in selflessness and community consciousness. The ten awards are each based on characters from children’s books, and are named after brave, creative and inspirational heroes, with titles such as, ‘The Bilbo Baggins Award’ for an unlikely hero, ‘The Bear Hunt Award’ for making it through a difficult journey, ‘The Robin Hood Award’ for selfless generosity, and ‘The Matilda Award’ for bringing magic to others.

Gaudio loved having the opportunity to design and manufacture the Believe Awards this year. As a charity, budget for the awards was very limited but Gaudio’s designers put together a series of designs that really captured what they wanted to convey within the budget available. The awards were profiled clear acrylic, reverse-printed and backed with blue acrylic, set on a brushed aluminium base. They were printed to look like an open book with fantasy characters from children’s literature flying out of the pages, giving a striking three-dimensional effect to the awards. Gaudio also produced ten landscape-style acrylic tablets using the same imagery, which were given to the sponsors of the awards. Gaudio’s team really loved the overall look of these awards and we were thrilled with how perfect the design was for their inspirational recipients.
