Award Winning Staff at Gaudio

We had some familiar clients this week!

Earlier this week, staff at Gaudio each designed and manufactured their own awards. The experience ties the Gaudio process together and keeps everyone up to date with the newest production techniques and tools.

Alannah, our newest Project Manager, spoke about her experience creating an award.

“It’s been amazing, and so fun. You learn very quickly that a good brief can really benefit the design team, but it made me think about how I could be as clear as possible with what I wanted.”

A clear brief can make all the difference with bespoke manufacture. Alannah had a fairly simple brief; a small, brushed aluminium tablet, with a collage of images representing all her favourite things.

Design

Alannah then went on to sit with our design team. She wanted her award to feature a collage of images, and she already had some pictures picked out.

“I have a better understanding of why a vector image is so important – some of the files I had already were usable, but the jpeg would have been impossible to resize or edit in high quality.”

A vector is a combination of lines, shapes, text and colours that have the ability to be assembled and disassembled, stretched, enlarged and shrunk without losing any quality or image resolution.

Production

Alannah chose to have her images printed on an aluminium tablet. This meant a trip over to our polishing unit, to look at how the unfinished aluminium we receive can be given a shiny polished finish, or a matt brushed finish.

Giulia, another one of our Project Managers, chose to have a polished base for her award. This base was laser engraved using our in-house facilities. We can also engrave wooden award components, for a classic look for details.

Printing was the final production process. For Alannah, this meant printing and sealing her colourful design onto the aluminium block. The ink then dries instantly using UV-technology and is ready to display on her desk.

“I’m so proud to see what we create – the whole day was so valuable, and really interesting. I don’t think people realise we really do see everything through from start to finish when our production facility is under the same roof as customer service. Coming into Gaudio every day gives me that insight, and making this award let me get to grips with how we can make each award the best it can be.”

Each award we create is assembled by hand. For Giulia, this included adding laser-cut acrylic details.
